Just
like Spain, the Italian government, issued from October 1997 to March
1998, the project "Ecco l'Euro!", an initiative to familiarize the
Italians with the forthcoming currency the Euro.
During
this six months period, in the Italian towns of Fiesole and Pontassieve, two
euro coins and a 3 € bank note were put in circulation along with the Italian
lire.
One
of the coins with a facial value of 50 cents and another of 1 Euro, were
accepted has payment during this period in bars, restaurants and shops.
